The Dow Rose 100 Points. Can It Hold On?

It’s been a bumpy start to the new year for the stock market, but the major indexes were all posting modest gains in midday trading.

The Dow was up 120 points, or 0.3%, shortly after noon ET. The S&P 500 was up 0.5%. The Nasdaq Composite was up 0.6%.

The major indexes have dipped and jumped repeatedly throughout the session, as bulls and bears each looked to set the tone for 2025.
